wrighttangle2 it was not hard at all, just time consuming. The floors are just scewed down and come right up after the screws are taken out. I like to pull my floor boards in my boats at least every two years if not every year. For nothing else but to give them a good cleaning. SL

Chuck, Yamaha's 4 strokes are good outboards...I have Honda's on my boat but I would of been just as happy with Yamaha's...I have the 90 HP Honda motor, I looked at the Honda 115HP but it was just to heavy for my boat, the Yamaha 115 would of been a good choice...29 pounds heavier then my 90 Honda....94 pounds lighter then the Honda 115..this would of worked on my boat, the Yamaha 115 is geared a little lower then the Honda 115, they did this to make up for the smaller displacement and the less mid-range torque.. but it's still a great outboard..I love my Honda's but sometimes I wish I had that 115 Yamaha and the T8 Yamaha . oh well maybe next time!
I'll keep watching this thread for your update on your boats speed...I'm still trying to learn about all this prop and speed thing.....
One of the things I see is that the 14.5" diameter prop is a little more efficient then the 13.25" diameter props that are on the Honda 75 thru 130 HP motors...On my Honda 90hp with a 13.25"X 19" I lose about 18% at WOT to real world physic (boat weight, wind resistance, water resistance, prop slippage) Someone in the thread above posted that they are losing 9% to real world physic with the 14.5"X 17" prop...much more efficient...some of the efficiency difference is do to the pitch change (less slippage) but not all...
Any prop no matter what the diameter is can't move forward more then 100% of it's pitch per revolution. Example a 14.4"X 19" moves forward 19 inches for each revolution. The mathematical physic of the prop moving forward how ever many inches the pitch is for each revolution is all that it's capable of ...it's just math.... WOT RPMs, gear ratio, Prop pitch.....this gets you a 100% efficiency number...real world physics causes it to be some percent less then this.
Example the 130 hp and the 150 hp Hondas are geared the same (2:00.1) they both have the same WOT rpm range..5500 to 6000...with the same pitch prop they should go the same speed but they don't . With prop diameters 13.25"and 14.5" receptively .if you put these motors on identical boats (weight length) with the same pitch prop 19" the 150hp will go faster at the same RPM because the prop is pushing more water so it's more efficient. (less slippage)..it's not pushing the water faster it's just pushing more water...more torque, faster to plane but not much faster at WOT but some faster ...The 14.5" X 19" prop still can't exceed the physical limits of it's pitch of 19"...in a perfect world ( No boat weight, wind resistance, water resistance, prop slippage) both boats would go the same speed.
For the 130 hp and the 150 hp I divided a WOT of 5500 by the gear ratio of 2.00:1 = 2750.0 prop revolutions per minute X 19 inches pitch = 52250.0 inches divided by 12 inches (foot) = 4354.16 feet X 60 minutes (one hour) = 261250.0 feet per hour divided by 5280 feet (one mile) = perfect world speed of 49.47 mph for both motors but we still have to deal with real world physics (boat weight, wind resistance, water resistance, prop slippage) the 150 hp will be a little more efficient but not much faster...
Of coarse this is just my opinion ..... Sorry this is so long .....Barry

Barry: Its a 150 Yamaha 4 stroke. I'll be at the lake this weekend again and have the Merc prop back on--I will verify it again and check GPS again, because now I'm second guessing my own thoughts after the on-line exchange. I'll report back. By the way I have two or maybe three names on the Hewes forum for some reason--I don't know how I got westoxblood 4 but the web page asked if I would change my name to it one night and I said yes. Anyway I am sagelpuss1 and westoxblood, two different computers?? I should probably clean it up one of these days to help cut confusion. Chuck

Gary, this summer I took the soft top off my boat and played ski boat with it for a couple days...while I had the top off I thought I would see how fast it would go...I had unloaded everything that was not necessary for skiing (all the fishing stuff, kicker was still on) I was also trying to run it out of gas to check the tank size...see if it's as big as it's suppose to be (it is)
Anyway...empty fuel tank, no top and just me and a friend in the boat , very slight chop on the water and no wind..... 35.7 MPH WOT this is less then a one MPH gain over the top on and the tank full...I really thought that it would show at least 2 or 3 MPH faster....Oh well...Barry

SLwind, So how hard was it to take up the floor boards?? I've thought about taking up mine just to look under there and see how well it's built... I helped a friend remove his floor boards in his North River once, It really wasn't that tuff. I'm hoping it's about the same. One day I'm going to pull mine up just to check, I might find the same thing you found.....Barry

Brian, I have a 14.5 X 19 degree pitch Merc aluminum prop 22 HT ET Hewescraft that tops out over 50 miles per hour but only allows 5200 rpms. I say over 50 because I'm afraid to tell you that I have recorded 56.8 mph all trimmed up on a calm surface. And believe it or not my GPS is tracking right with the Lowarance speedometer. This was kind of a fluke because the SS prop I ordered with the boat didn't come in and the dealer only had this Merc prop to put on it so I could have it for the July 4th Holiday. Since then I have tried a SS saltwater series 17 and 15 degree but notice a huge negative difference in overall speed and performance. The Merc prop allows me to trim--and I can feel the trim, while the SS props never really change performance with the up and down motor trim. The dealer is still researching this and I have written Hewes but so far no answers except the 19 degree aluminum prop must have what it takes to push this heavier boat and trim it better. Thats why I asked the question on-line because I really want a SS prop that will do the samething as this Merc prop. One kind of interesting observation is that the SS prop will slightly rub the lower unit if you manually spin it. Dealer thinks that my problem is that I don't have the proper Yamaha spacer and this he says could dramatically change performance, take the vibration out (not to mention prevent ruining my motor)--stay tuned, its on order. Chuck
